Germany sees the possibility of becoming the first European team to win the World Cup in the Americas as an extra incentive for Sunday's final against Argentina.

Coach Joachim Loew says his team is aware that it can write history since South American teams have dominated on the continent in previous tournament.

Germany beat Argentina 4-0 in the quarterfinals in 2010 in South Africa but Loew called the Argentine defense "much better organized than four years ago, much more compact."

Loew says that while Argentine star Lionel Messi can be decisive, "Argentina is more than just Messi."

Loew says the two teams are of similar quality but Germany will win if his team can impose its game.

Loew says Germany has a "healthy dose of confidence."
