Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Clayton Kershaw led the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 9-0 victory with another dominant performance over the Colorado Rockies on Friday.
Just two weeks after he tossed a no-hitter against the same team, Kershaw (10-2) conceded just two hits across eight solid innings with eight strikeouts to win his seventh straight start.
"With Clayton it seems like it's like this all the time," said Dodgers manager Don Mattingly. "It may not always be zeros but it's always pretty much going eight and pretty dominating for the most part."
The left-hander also extended his scoreless streak to 36 straight innings. It is the longest active streak in the majors and is third in franchise history behind Orel Hershiser (59) and Don Drysdale (58).
Scott Van Slyke and Yasiel Puig both homered while Andre Ethier tripled among his three hits for the Dodgers, who used a season-high 19 hits to win the second contest of this four-game set.
Nolan Arenado and D.J. LeMahieu both hit for Colorado, which has lost five straight and nine of its last 10.
Rockies starter Jair Jurrjens (0-1) was tagged for eight runs on 12 hits across 4 2/3 frames in his season debut.
"At this point we have to be tired of getting kicked around," said Rockies manager Walt Weiss. "I think it is up to us to do something about it."
Los Angeles wasted no time getting on the board. Dee Gordon led off the game with a bunt single over to third before Puig crushed a fastball over the wall in center. Hanley Ramirez doubled to left and Ethier's deep liner dropped in for an RBI triple, giving the Dodgers a 3-0 lead.
Colorado threatened in the third. LeMahieu singled to right before Jurrjens moved him over on a bunt and LeMahieu then took third on Kershaw's throwing error to put runners on the corners with one out. Kershaw got out of the jam by picking off Jurrjens and striking out Charlie Blackmon.
The Dodgers added five runs in the fifth. Van Slyke clobbered a three-run shot to left with two outs. Ethier walked and Juan Uribe singled before A.J. Ellis brought in Ethier with a base hit to center. Kershaw helped his own cause with an RBI single to stake the Dodgers to an 8-0 advantage.
In the ninth, Erisbel Arruebarrena drove in a run with a grounder up the middle to account for the final score.
