Frisco, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The NCAA Division I Football Championship Game this season has been scheduled for Jan. 10 at Toyota Stadium - its latest date ever.
The two participants will have a three-week break from the semifinals Dec. 19-20 leading into the championship game.
The layoff also was three weeks the first three times (after the 2010-12 seasons) the championship game was held at Toyota Stadium. This past season, North Dakota State defeated Towson for its third straight national title two weeks after the semifinal round.
The 24-team playoffs will begin at campus sites over Thanksgiving weekend. Toyota Stadium seats 20,086 for the championship game.
A national playoff has been held in the FCS, formerly Division I-AA, since 1978.
