The 2018 U.S. Women's Open Championship will be played at Shoal Creek in Birmingham, Alabama.

The United States Golf Association announced the venue on Tuesday for the tournament scheduled for May 31-June 3 in 2018.

Shoal Creek has hosted the Regions Tradition, a Champions Tour major, since 2011. It was also the site of two previous USGA events, the 1986 U.S. Amateur Championship and the 2008 U.S. Junior Amateur.

Shoal Creek was designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened for play on Nov. 1, 1977. U.S. Open champions Hubert Green, Nicklaus and Jerry Pate played in the inaugural round.

It was the site of the PGA Championship in 1984 and 1990.

The USGA will also begin holding the U.S. Women's Open before the U.S. Open in 2018.
