After photo-finish loss last year, Chaves turns table with last-lap pass for Indy Lights win

Gabby Chaves atoned for a heartbreaking loss last year by passing Matthew Brabham on the final lap Friday to win the Indy Lights race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Chaves spent most of the final five laps jockeying for second place with Zach Veach, and appeared to squander his chance for victory when they allowed Brabham to gain some separation.

Chaves closed on the leader entering the final corner, though, and won a dramatic sprint down the front stretch in a photo-finish nearly as thrilling as the one a year ago.

In that race, Chaves was edged at the line by Peter Dempsey by 0.0025 seconds, the closest finish ever on the famed 2.5-mile oval that has been hosting races since 1909.
