Williamsburg, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Hee Young Park carded a 3-under 68 on Friday and moved into the lead with the second round of the Kingsmill Championship suspended due to darkness.
Park, who has two LPGA Tour victories to her credit, ended 36 holes at 8- under-par 134.
The start of the third round was delayed for 3 1/2 hours due to inclement weather. Only players from the first wave of tee times were able to complete their rounds. The second round will resume Saturday morning at 8 a.m. ET.
Stacy Lewis, who could take over the top spot in the world rankings on Monday, fired a 6-under 65 in round two. She was joined in second place at minus-7 by Brittany Lang, who posted a 68 in round two.
Lexi Thompson, Azahara Munoz and Lizette Salas were all on the course and stood at minus-7.
Katherine Kirk (68), Mariajo Uribe (65), and Thidapa Suwannapura (70) share seventh place at 5-under-par 137. They were joined there by Alejandra Llaneza and Line Vedel, who both have holes to complete in round two at Kingsmill Resort & Spa.
Park stumbled to a bogey on the fourth but came back with birdies at seven and eight. She parred the ninth to make the turn at minus-6.
Around the turn, Park birdied the 10th to move into a tie for the lead. She took the lead by herself with a birdie on the par-5 15th. Park parred the final three holes to end at minus-8.
"The course was pretty wet, but it turned into pretty nice shape. The greens were really firm yesterday, but after the rain, they were holding today," Park stated. "I feel really good. I rested the whole week last week."
Lewis played the back nine first on Friday and she birdied three of her first six holes. After three pars in a row, Lewis birdied the first to move to minus-5. She converted back-to-back birdie chances at six and seven to get within one of the lead.
"Definitely have a better feeling coming off the course today. Just feel like I played a lot more solid. I hit the ball better, definitely had more control going into the greens. I think less wind helped there," said Lewis. "Just stayed really patient and made a few putts, and added up to a pretty good score."
Lang birdied the second and third to open her round. She parred three in a row, then birdied the seventh as she made the turn at minus-7. Lang parred six in a row from the eighth, and that run ended when she bogeyed the 14th. She bounced right back with a birdie on the 15th, then parred out to finish one behind Park.
"It was a beautiful day. I have a lot of friends and family here, so I'm having a lot of fun," Lang stated. "I've been playing really good and working really hard just trying to be confident out there and committed to my shots. Working on a few things, so good first two days."
NOTES: Defending champion Cristie Kerr posted an even-par 71 and is tied for 12th at minus-4 through two rounds ... Officials hope to have third-round tee times run from 11:55 a.m. - 1:55 p.m. ET on Saturday.
