Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Troy Tulowitzki continued his torrid play with a pair of two-run homers and Jordan Lyles fired eight-plus efficient innings, as the Colorado Rockies claimed an 8-2 win over the Texas Rangers Monday at Coors Field.
On the same day he was named National League Player of the Month for April, Tulowitzki tallied his ninth career multi-homer game, launching a two-run blast in the fifth and another two-run shot in the seventh.
"Any time you're playing well you just try to ride the wave," Tulowitzki said. "I'm just trying to humble myself every day and put in the work and not get too confident that this comes easy because it doesn't."
Nolan Arenado extended his hitting streak to 25 games with a two-run homer in the second, while Lyles (4-0) remained unbeaten on the season by holding Texas to two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts over his stellar outing.
Carlos Gonzalez added a pair of doubles, an RBI and a run scored for the Rockies, who will also host Tuesday's contest before traveling to Texas for the final two games of this series.
Texas starter Martin Perez (4-2) was pegged with the loss after giving up five runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings.
Shin-Soo Choo collected two hits and scored once for the Rangers, who have lost six of their last eight games.
Arenado extended his streak in his first at-bat. After Gonzalez led off the bottom of the second with a double, the Colorado third baseman belted a 2-2 fastball into the seats in left for a 2-0 lead.
"The first homer I threw a fastball," Perez said of the pitch to Arenado. "I don't know how he hit that pitch."
Gonzalez added an RBI groundout in the third before Tulowitzki followed Drew Stubbs' one-out double in the fifth with a towering drive into the first row of seats in right field to give the Rockies a 5-0 lead.
Choo opened the sixth with a double and moved to third on Stubbs' fielding error before scoring when Josh Wilson followed with a groundout, but Tulowitzki went deep again in the seventh to extend Colorado's lead.
Stubbs started the seventh with a double before Tulowitzki sent a 1-0 fastball out to right-center field for a 7-1 spread.
Stubbs added a sacrifice fly in the eighth, while pinch-hitter Mitch Moreland smacked an RBI single for Texas in the ninth to account for the final margin.
This series marks the Rangers' first trip to Coors Field since 2006, when they lost two of three to the Rockies ... Lyles improved to 1-5 in seven career starts against the Rangers ... Colorado improved to 12-11 all-time against Texas ... The Rangers went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position ... Stubbs, Brandon Barnes and Gonzalez each had two doubles, marking the second time ever for the Rockies in which they've had three hitters with multi-double games. The only other time was back on July 2, 1993 against the Chicago Cubs.
