Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Colorado Rockies have placed catcher Wilin Rosario on the 15-day disabled list due to a viral infection.
The move was needed to clear a roster spot for pitcher Jhoulys Chacin, who will make his season debut in Sunday's game against the New York Mets.
Rosario sat out Saturday's 11-10 victory over the Mets because of the illness, with the Rockies recalling Michael McKenry from Triple-A Colorado Springs to add a second healthy catcher.
After belting 49 home runs over the previous two seasons, Rosario is hitting .239 with three homers and 15 RBI through 24 games in 2014.
Chacin, who posted a career-best 14 wins last season, had been sidelined since the early part of spring training with a strained shoulder. The right-hander prepared for Sunday's outing by tossing six innings of one-run ball in a rehab start for Colorado Springs on Tuesday.
