Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - The Baltimore Orioles have activated third baseman Manny Machado off the 15-day disabled list.
Machado had been on the DL since the end of March while still recovering from left knee surgery performed last October. He was hurt in late September and missed the final week of the 2013 season.
The move was expected Tuesday, but the Orioles were rained out each of the last two days. Machado was 8-for-12 with four doubles in three rehab games for Single-A Frederick.
In 156 games last year, Machado hit .283 with 14 homers and 71 RBI while leading the American League with 51 doubles. In 51 games during his rookie campaign of 2012, he hit .294 with seven homers and 26 RBI.
The Orioles opened a roster spot by optioning infielder Steve Lombardozzi to Triple-A Norfolk. Lombardozzi was batting .292 in 19 games for the Orioles this season.
