Oeiras, Portugal (SportsNetwork.com) - Top seeds Carla Suarez Navarro and Eugenie Bouchard notched second-round wins Wednesday at the $250,000 Portugal Open, a clay court tune-up for the French Open.
The reigning two-time runner-up Suarez Navarro served up a double bagel, defeating Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 6-0, 6-0. The Spaniard will next play Slovenian Polona Hercog, who knocked out sixth-seeded Czech Lucie Safarova 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
Suarez Navarro lost to Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in last year's Oeiras finale.
Bouchard, meanwhile, posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Kazakhstan's Yaroslava Shvedova. The Canadian wild card will meet seventh-seeded Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova in the quarterfinals.
Kuznetsova fought back to beat Spain's Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor 5-7, 6-4, 6-1. Torro-Flor was last week's surprise Marrakech titlist.
Another upset saw Romanian qualifier Irina-Camelia Begu topple fifth-seeded Estonian Kaia Kanepi 6-4, 7-5.
Additional second-round wins came for fourth-seeded Italian Roberta Vinci, eighth-seeded Russian Elena Vesnina and Swiss qualifier Timea Bacsinszky.
Vinci and Vesnina will clash in the quarterfinals, while Bacsinszky will square off against Begu.
This week's titlist will pocket $48,000.
