Holmes soars into top 100 in world rankings

Philadelphia, PA ( - J.B. Holmes earned his first PGA Tour win since the 2008 season at the Wells Fargo Championship, and that helped him soar into the top 70 in this week's world golf rankings.

Holmes, who won for the third time on the PGA Tour, climbed 174 spots from No. 242 last week to No. 68 this week. He also gained a spot in the field at the Players Championship.

Tiger Woods is still the top-ranked player despite missing time with a back injury. He was again followed by Adam Scott, Henrik Stenson, Bubba Watson, Matt Kuchar, Jason Day and Jordan Spieth.

Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia exchanged places with the reigning British Open champion inching up to eighth. Justin Rose was 10th again and trailed by Rory McIlroy, Zach Johnson and Dustin Johnson.

Jim Furyk, who finished second to Holmes at Quail Hollow, jumped eight places to No. 14. Graeme McDowell, Steve Stricker, Charl Schwartzel, Luke Donald, Jason Dufner, Keegan Bradley and Ian Poulter were all down one spot and rank 15th through 21st this week.
