Barcelona, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Fourth-seeded Kei Nishikori of Japan will attempt to capture his fifth ATP World Tour title on Sunday against Colombian Santiago Giraldo in the Barcelona Open final.
Nishikori beat ninth-seeded Latvian Ernests Gulbis by a 6-2, 6-4 score, while Giraldo took down sixth seed Nicolas Almagro 7-5, 6-3.
Giraldo won for the first time in six meetings against Almagro, who stunned eight-time Barcelona champion Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals.
The 24-year-old Nishikori's highlight of the season came in Memphis in February when he won the fourth title of his career. He is 4-2 for his career in title matches.
Giraldo will appear in his second career final on Sunday. His only other final run came in 2011 when he reached the title game in Santiago.
This week's winner will earn $580,000.
