Irving, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Dallas Cowboys signed quarterback Caleb Hanie to a one-year contract on Thursday.

The signing of Hanie gives the Cowboys three quarterbacks behind starter Tony Romo, who is coming off back surgery. Kyle Orton was Romo's backup last year, and Dallas signed Brandon Weeden last month.

Hanie, a Dallas native who went to Forney High School, played in 10 games with the Bears from 2009-11, throwing for 679 yards with three touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

The 28-year-old Hanie has spent time with the Broncos, Ravens and Browns since leaving the Bears in 2011.
