Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Washington Nationals activated outfielder Denard Span from the seven-day disabled list Saturday prior to the team's home game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Span sustained a concussion during an April 11 contest against Atlanta when he collided with Braves second baseman Dan Uggla while rounding first base in the eighth inning.

The 30-year-old outfielder stayed in the game and played the remainder of the 10-inning contest before being placed on the short-term DL the following day.

Over 10 games this season entering Saturday, Span batted .222 with three doubles, one triple and four runs batted in.

To make room on the roster, Washington optioned outfielder Steven Souza Jr. to Triple-A Syracuse.

Souza was recalled from Syracuse after the injury to Span and made his major league debut on April 13. The 24-year-old managed just one hit in five plate appearances over five games.
