Lisbon, Portugal (SportsNetwork.com) - Benfica moved to within touching distance of clinching the Portuguese Liga after claiming a 2-0 win over Arouca.

The victory takes Benfica seven points clear of second-place Sporting Lisbon with three matches remaining, meaning that Benfica can clinch the league title by beating last-place Olhanense next weekend.

Rodrigo put Benfica ahead in first-half stoppage time when he netted his fourth goal in the past three games by taking advantage of a failed clearance.

Nicolas Gaitan then doubled Benfica's advantage 10 minutes after halftime to keep Arouca very much in the relegation struggle.

Sporting Lisbon stayed alive in the title hunt with a 2-0 victory over Gil Vicente as Islam Slimani scored in the opening minute for Sporting before Heldon capped the triumph in stoppage time.

FC Porto has won the last three league titles but the club will finish this season in third place despite a 3-1 win at Braga behind goals from Silvestre Varela, Carlos Eduardo and Juan Quintero.

Academica and Setubal traded first-half goals six minutes apart in a 1-1 draw, Nacional doubled up on Maritimo, 2-0, Fredy scored twice to lift Belenenses to a 3-1 win over Guimaraes, Olhanense improved its survival hopes by downing Rio Ave, 2-1, with Federico Dionisi scoring the winning goal in the 68th minute and Estoril held off Pacos Ferreira, 1-0, with Joao Pedro scoring the lone goal in the 40th minute.
