Cards reward GM Mozeliak with two-year extension

St. Louis, MO ( - The St. Louis Cardinals announced Saturday that senior vice president and general manager John Mozeliak has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the team through the 2018 season.

Last February, the Cardinals had signed Mozeliak to a three-year extension.

Mozeliak has served as the team's general manager the last six seasons (2008-2013). The Cardinals have advanced to the postseason four times, winning a World Series title in 2011 and making the World Series in 2013, during his tenure as GM.

"Over the last six seasons Mo has done an outstanding job leading our baseball operations," said Cardinals chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. "By extending Mo's contract with the club, we look forward to continuing our approach which emphasizes excellence at the major league level, supported by a strong player procurement and player development program."

The 45-year-old Mozeliak has been a member of the Cardinals' front office since 1995.

St. Louis entered Saturday's action with a 5-5 record.
