Radwanska reaches quarters on home soil

Katowice, Poland (SportsNetwork.com) - Polish favorite Agnieszka Radwanska was an easy second-round winner Thursday at the WTA's BNP Paribas Katowice Open.

The top seed and former Wimbledon runner-up cruised past former French Open runner-up Francesca Schiavone of Italy 6-4, 6-3 on the indoor clay at Spodek.

Radwanska's quarterfinal opponent on Friday will be sixth-seeded Austrian Yvonne Meusburger, who whipped Croat Mirjana Lucic-Baroni 6-2, 6-3 on Day 4.

Also on Thursday, fourth-seeded Frenchwoman Alize Cornet topped Slovakian qualifier Kristina Kucova 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 and seventh-seeded Slovak Magdalena Rybarikova drubbed Spaniard Silvia Soler-Espinosa 6-2, 6-0.

The other quarters will pit third-seeded Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro against Rybarikova, Cornet versus fifth-seeded Czech Klara Koukalova and Israeli Shahar Peer against Italian Camila Giorgi.

The 2014 Katowice champion will collect $43,000.
