Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Yankees placed closer David Robertson on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday because of a strained groin.
Robertson sustained the injury during Sunday's 6-4 win over Toronto when he spun a scoreless inning to pick up his second save. The right-hander underwent an MRI on Monday, which confirmed a Grade 1 strain of his groin.
With Robertson unavailable, Yankees manager Joe Girardi turned to Shawn Kelley to record the final three outs of New York's 4-2 win over Baltimore on Monday. Kelley was credited with his first career save.
Girardi said he will use a closer-by-committee approach without Robertson.
To fill the vacated roster spot, the Yankees recalled left-hander Cesar Cabral from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre.
