Casablanca, Morocco (SportsNetwork.com) - Former champion and former top-10 star Gilles Simon was among Tuesday's first-round losers at the $585,000 Moroccan Open tennis event.
Sixth-seeded Argentine Federico Delbonis dismissed the unseeded 2008 titlist Simon, a qualifier this week, in 6-4, 6-4 fashion on the red clay at Complexe Al Amal.
Also on Day 2, 2012 runner-up Albert Ramos of Spain topped Moroccan wild card Lamine Ouahab 6-3, 2-6, 6-1; Spanish qualifier Roberto Carballes Baena defeated Belgian David Goffin 6-2, 7-5; 2010 runner-up Victor Hanescu of Romania handled Moroccan wild card Hicham Khaddari 7-6 (7-3), 6-3; and Canadian qualifier Filip Peliwo doused Italian veteran Filippo Volandri 7-6 (8-6), 6-3.
This week's top seeds are South African Kevin Anderson and Frenchman Gael Monfils. Anderson was last year's runner-up here to Spaniard Tommy Robredo.
Anderson will meet Hanescu in the second round on Wednesday.
The 2014 Casablanca winner will claim $105,000.
