St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Prior to the start of a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Cincinnati Reds activated catcher Devin Mesoraco from the 15-day disabled list.

Mesoraco was sidelined by a strained left oblique muscle near the end of Cactus League play, and the club decided he would begin the season on the DL.

He recently completed a three-game rehab assignment at Double-A Pensacola, going 0-for-5 with two walks and a sacrifice fly.

To make room on the roster, Cincinnati optioned backstop Tucker Barnhart to Triple-A Louisville. Barnhart hit .250 in three games with the big club.

Brayan Pena started behind the plate in an eventual 5-3 defeat on Monday.
