Bogota, Colombia (SportsNetwork.com) - Sixth-seeded American Vania King reached the second round, while third-seeded Italian Karin Knapp was sent packing Monday at the Claro Open Colsanitas tennis event.
The 24-year-old King topped Slovenian Tadeja Majeric 6-1, 7-5, while an upset came when South African Chanelle Scheepers took out Knapp in 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) fashion on the red clay at Centro de Alto Rendimiento.
Eighth-seeded former Bogota champion Lourdes Dominguez Lino moved on by besting Brazilian Teliana Pereira 6-2, 6-4. Dominguez Lino titled here in 2011.
In the later matches, Irina Khromacheva eased past Olivia Rogowska, 6-2, 6-2, and Alexandra Panova needed a bit more time to claim a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 decision against Kristina Mladenovic.
The top seeds this week are former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic and American Sloane Stephens. Jankovic is the reigning champion, having beaten Argentine Paula Ormaechea in last year's finale.
The 2014 Bogota titlist will earn $43,000.
