Naples, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - Andy Murray took part in a pair of wins that enabled Great Britain to take a 2-1 lead over Italy in their best-of-five Davis Cup quarterfinal.
After finishing off Andreas Seppi Saturday morning, Murray returned later in the day to partner with Colin Fleming for a 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 victory against Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini to give the Brits the edge.
The world No. 8 and reigning Wimbledon champion Murray was leading Friday's nightcap 6-4, 5-5 when play was called due to insufficient light. Murray completed the victory when play resumed on Saturday, recording a 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 decision over Seppi.
Fognini got the hosts on the board Friday by beating Brit James Ward 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 on the red clay at Tennis Club Napoli.
In Sunday's reverse singles, Fognini is scheduled on court first against Murray. Seppi would follow against Ward.
The Brits are captained by Leon Smith, while the Italians are skippered by Corrado Barazzutti. Italy leads the all-time series, 11-4, including a win in their last meeting 30 years ago. The Brits captured their first-ever clash way back in 1922.
The Great Britian-Italy winner will meet the Switzerland-Kazakhstan victor in a semifinal in September. Italy last reached the Davis Cup semis in 1998, while you have to go back to 1981 to find the last time Britain reached the last four.
