Utah athletic director Chris Hill says that basketball coach Larry Krystkowiak has agreed in principle to a new five-year deal.

Hill said in a phone interview with The Associated Press on Thursday that he was "confident" Krystkowiak had the Utes "headed in the right direction."

Krystkowiak is coming off a season in which he led the Utes to a 21-12 record and an appearance in the NIT. The Utes are 42-55 in three seasons under Krystkowiak.

Hill said talks with Krystkowiak began during the season and that both sides "were on the same page. About a week ago, we agreed on where we wanted to go."

Before Utah, Krystkowiak led Montana into the NCAA tournament and spent parts of two seasons as head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks.
