Milan, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - AC Milan midfielder Michael Essien is facing two weeks on the sidelines after suffering a thigh injury, the Serie A side announced Thursday.

The 31-year-old, who replaced Sulley Muntari halfway through Milan's win over Chievo last weekend after his compatriot suffered an ankle knock, will undergo further tests to reveal the extent of the injury.

"AC Milan wishes to communicate that Michael Essien has picked up an injury to his right thigh," the Italian club said in a statement. "The player will undergo further tests in ten days time."

Milan enter the weekend in 11th place in the top flight, 39 points behind leaders Juventus.
