A person familiar with the situation says Tennessee coach Cuonzo Martin has withdrawn his name from consideration from the coaching vacancy at Marquette.

The person said Martin had spoken to Marquette about the opening before removing himself from consideration. The person spoke to The Associated Press early Tuesday morning on the condition of anonymity because Marquette hasn't publicly commented on its list of candidates for the position.

Martin owns a 63-41 record in three seasons at Tennessee and led the Volunteers to a 24-13 record this year that ended Friday with a 73-71 loss to Michigan in the NCAA Midwest Regional semifinals. Marquette is seeking a replacement for Buzz Williams, who went 139-69 in six seasons at Marquette before leaving March 21 to take over Virginia Tech's program.
