San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - San Diego Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin was among several players placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday as the club set its Opening Day roster.
Quentin is still bothered by a bone bruise in his left knee he initially sustained on Mar. 16. The slugger has hit just .152 this spring and hasn't played in a game since Mar. 24.
The 30-year-old joins fellow outfielder Cameron Maybin, out until at least May with a ruptured left biceps tendon, as well as pitchers Josh Johnson (forearm), Casey Kelly (elbow) and Joe Wieland (elbow) on the 15-day DL. Left- hander Cory Luebke, who underwent Tommy John surgery last month, had previously been placed on the 60-day DL.
Quentin and Maybin's injuries have also opened up roster spots for veteran Xavier Nady and rookie Tommy Medica.
Nady, who last played in the majors in 2012 and spent his first three major league seasons with the Padres from 2003-05, had his contract selected from Triple-A El Paso on Saturday, while Medica beat out Kyle Blanks for a reserve job after hitting .333 with three homers in the spring.
The Padres will open the regular season at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers in a nationally televised matchup on Sunday.
