Monaco suffers defeat at Evian

Annecy, France (SportsNetwork.com) - AS Monaco fell further off PSG's pace at the top of the Ligue 1 table on Saturday, falling in a 1-0 loss at Evian.

The Parisians picked up a 1-0 win over Nice on Friday to go 13 points clear at the summit, and Monaco was unable to close the gap as it suffered its second loss in its last five league outings.

The match at the Parcs des Sports was scoreless until the dying stages when a hand ball from Ricardo Carvalho in the box saw the referee award Evian a penalty, which Cedric Mongongu promptly converted.

Monaco, which dictated play for much of the match, failed to find an equalizer in the final six minutes of the contest, keeping the club on 63 points for the season.

The win sees Evian strengthen its bid for survival as the club improves to 34 points on the season to move five points clear of the relegation zone.

The remainder of Saturday's Ligue 1 slate resulted in draws as 10 clubs left their respective matches with a point each.

Sochaux led for much of its home match with Marseille, but the visitors left the Stade Bonal with a share of the spoils thanks to Nicolas N'Koulou's 90th- minute strike.

Toulouse, meanwhile, spurned a tremendous opportunity to leave the Stade Francois-Coty with a victory as Jonathan Zebina's missed penalty in the fourth minute of stoppage time saw the club play to a 2-2 draw with Ajaccio.

Also on Saturday, Vincent Aboubakar and Odair Fortes exchanged goals in Lorient's 1-1 draw with Reims while Montpellier and Nantes played to 0-0 home draws with Valenciennes and Bordeaux, respectively.
