Saitama, Japan (SportsNetwork.com) - Italy's Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte captured the ice dance title at the World Figure Skating Championships on Saturday.
Cappellini and Lanotte, sixth at the 2014 Olympics, finished with a total of 175.43 points. After winning the short dance on Friday, Cappellini and Lanotte took fourth in the free dance on Saturday.
Canada's Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje, seventh in Sochi, were second with 175.41 points. Nathalie Pechalat and Fabian Bourzat of France took third.
Russia's Elena Ilinykh and Nikita Katsalapov finished first in the free dance to move up to fourth place overall. Ilinykh and Katsalapov won the bronze medal at last month's Olympics.
Olympic champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White of the United States decided against defending their world title, as did former world champions and Sochi silver medalists Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir of Canada.
