Saitama, Japan (SportsNetwork.com) - Japan's Mao Asada won the women's free skate on Saturday to capture her third world figure skating title.
Asada, sixth at the 2014 Olympics, finished with a total of 216.69 points. She also won the world championships in 2008 and 2010.
Russian 15-year-old Julia Lipnitskaia, fifth at the Olympics, took second with 207.50 points. Italy's Carolina Kostner, who won the bronze medal at last month's Olympics, settled for third.
Anna Pogorilaya of Russia finished fourth and American Gracie Gold took fifth.
