Malik Zaire is confident he can beat out Everett Golson to become Notre Dame's starting quarterback this fall.
Zaire knows he faces a big challenge beating out Golson, who helped the Irish finish 12-1 and get to the national championship game in 2012 before being suspended from school for the 2013 season.
But coach Brian Kelly says it's an open competition between the two and he's not sure when he will decide on a starter. Both Golson and Zaire give Notre Dame the running threat the Irish lacked last season under Tommy Rees. Kelly says consistency is the key.
If Zaire wins the job, he would become the first starting left-handed quarterback in Notre Dame history.
Zaire describes his relationship with Golson as very competitive."
