Key Biscayne, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The foursome of Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Andy Murray all easily reached the quarterfinals at the $4.7 million Sony Open, the second straight ATP Masters 1000 event.
Nadal, the runner-up here in 2005, 2008 and 2011, capped Tuesday's action on the hardcourts at Crandon Park with a 6-2, 6-2 clinic over 14th-seeded Italian Fabio Fognini. The match took just 62 minutes, with the No. 1 ranked player winning all but three of his 35 service points.
Nadal's next opponent will be 12th-seeded Milos Raonic of Canada, who breezed past lucky loser Benjamin Becker in a 6-3, 6-4 final.
The second-seeded former world No. 1 Djokovic, a three-time champion at this event, got past 16th-seeded former top-10 performer Tommy Robredo of Spain, 6-3, 7-5. Djokovic struck 19 winners, including five aces, and converted on both of his break-point opportunities on Tuesday.
Djokovic, fresh off his Masters title at Indian Wells, was not broken in his sixth straight victory over Robredo and has now reached the quarters at the last eight Masters tournaments.
Up next for the super Serb will be the sixth-seeded Murray, who dismissed 11th-seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 6-4, 6-1.
Murray, who split with coach Ivan Lendl last week, beat Spaniard David Ferrer in last year's Miami final, also titled here in 2009 and was the 2012 runner- up to Djokovic.
The good friends Djokovic and Murray will meet in the quarters for a 20th time on the ATP World Tour, with the Serb leading the lifetime series, 11-8. Djokovic is 2-1 in their previous meetings in Miami.
The 32-year-old fifth-seeded former world No. 1 Federer blew past ninth-seeded Frenchman Richard Gasquet 6-1, 6-2 in a mere 49 minutes to set-up a quarterfinal date with Japan's Kei Nishikori.
Federer, who titled in Miami back-to-back in 2005 and 2006, lost to Djokovic in the Indian Wells finale two weeks ago.
Meanwhile, surging 22nd-seeded Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov ousted third- seeded Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. The hot Dolgopolov was a runner-up in Rio de Janeiro last month, then reached back-to- back semifinals in Acapulco and Indian Wells.
Dolgopolov is a stellar 7-3 against top-20 players this season and will face another in seventh-seeded Tomas Berdych in the quarters. Berdych, the 2010 runner-up, was a 6-3, 7-5 winner over 10th-seeded American John Isner.
Last year's Miami runner-up Ferrer will not return to the Sony Open final this year, as the fourth-seeded Spaniard gave way to a 20th-seeded Nishikori, 7-6 (9-7), 2-6, 7-6 (11-9), in 3 hours, 5 minutes on Day 7. Nishikori prevailed despite being broken seven times, compared to five breaks by the Japanese star.
The winner of this lucrative tournament will earn $787,000.
