The United States Paralympic hockey players have succeeded where the country's Olympic men failed on ice -- by collecting medals in Sochi. And they were gold.
The U.S. successfully defended its Paralympic ice sledge hockey title by beating host Russia 1-0 in the final on Saturday.
Former U.S. Marine Josh Sweeney scored in the second period at Shayba Arena, which was close to its 7,000-seat capacity and packed with flag-waving, chanting Russians.
It was the third U.S. gold of a Winter Paralympics being dominated by Russia.
At the Olympics, the U.S. men's team missed out on a podium finish, but the women won silver.
