Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Carolina Hurricanes placed defenseman Justin Faulk on injured reserve and recalled defenseman Ryan Murphy from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL) on Thursday.

Faulk suffered an upper-body injury in Sunday's game against the Anaheim Ducks. He is expected to miss at least one week. Faulk has three goals and 23 points in 61 games this season.

Murphy, 20, played in 39 games with the Hurricanes earlier this season and recorded two goals and nine assists for 11 points. He was drafted by the Hurricanes in the first round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
