Caps recall Brown, re-assign Grubauer

Arlington, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Washington Capitals recalled newly acquired forward Chris Brown from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) and re-assigned goaltender Philipp Grubauer to Hershey on Thursday.

Grubauer was called up on Wednesday to serve as a back up to Braden Holtby when the Caps traded goaltender Michal Neuvirth and defenseman Rostislav Klesla to Buffalo for goaltender Jaroslav Halak and a draft pick earlier in the day.

Grubauer ended up playing in Wednesday night's 6-4 loss at Philadelphia when Holtby was pulled after allowing four goals on 18 shots. Grubauer made 10 of 11 saves in relief.

Grubauer, 22, has appeared in 17 games with Washington this season, posting a 6-5-5 record with a 2.38 goals against average and .925 save percentage.

Brown was acquired by the Caps on Tuesday along with a fourth-round draft pick in the 2015 NHL Draft and Rostislav Klesla from the Phoenix Coyotes for Martin Erat and John Mitchell.

Brown, 23, played in six games with the Coyotes this season, registering 17 penalty minutes. In addition, he recorded 35 points (14 goals, 21 assists) and 68 penalty minutes in 51 games with the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League (AHL).
