Newcastle has fined manager Alan Pardew $168,000 and formally warned him for head-butting a Hull player in an English Premier League game.

The incident happened in the 72nd minute when David Meyler barged into Pardew as he looked to retrieve the ball for a throw-in at KC Stadium on Saturday.

Newcastle took swift disciplinary action after the English Football Association said it would also open an investigation.

In a statement, Newcastle says "we have held discussions this evening with Alan who has offered his sincere apologies to the club and it is clear he deeply regrets his actions."

Although it appears Pardew's job isn't under any immediate threat, Newcastle said: "His behavior was unacceptable and is not the behavior we expect from the manager."
