Matuidi extends PSG stay

Paris, France (SportsNetwork.com) - Paris Saint-Germain announced on Wednesday that midfielder Blaise Matuidi has signed a four-year contract extension with the team that runs until 2018.

Matuidi's previous deal was set to expire at the end of the current campaign, but the Ligue 1 leaders were eager to lock him up beyond this year after his impact at the club since his arrival in July 2011.

The France international joined PSG from St Etienne and was a member of last season's title-winning side as he started 35 games and scored five goals in league play.

The 26-year-old is in position to add to his trophy cabinet this season with PSG sitting five points clear of second-place Monaco at the top of the table, while the club is also in a great position to reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League following a 4-0 first-leg victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the round of 16.

Matuidi has appeared in 25 games in Ligue 1 for PSG this term, netting three goals.
