Tempe, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Josh Hamilton's hope for a comeback season hasn't gotten off to the best of starts.
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia disclosed on Wednesday that the former American League MVP will be sidelined for a minimum of two weeks due to a calf strain he sustained during a baserunning drill.
Hamilton suffered the injury on Tuesday and was seen on crutches at the Angels' spring training complex later that day. The five-time All-Star is still expected to be ready for the team's regular season opener on Mar. 31, barring any setbacks.
The 32-year-old Hamilton signed a five-year, $125 million contract with the Angels in December of 2012 following a stellar five-year run with the AL West- rival Texas Rangers. He had a disappointing first season in Anaheim, however, batting a career-low .250 with 21 home runs and 79 RBI in 151 games.
Hamilton averaged 28 homers and 101 RBI while hitting .305 during his tenure with the Rangers from 2008-12.
