Victoria, Australia (SportsNetwork.com) - Carolina Hedwall carded a 7-under 65 on Friday to move into first place at the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open.
Hedwall, who is seeking her first career win on the LPGA Tour, finished 36 holes at Victoria Golf Club at 11-under-par 133.
First-round leader Suzann Pettersen shot a 4-under 68 during her second round to drop into second place at 10-under 134, while amateur Minjee Lee (67) is alone in third at minus-9.
Lydia Ko (68), Anna Nordqvist (64) and Holly Clyburn (68) share fourth at 8- under 136.
Hedwall started on the back nine and parred her first five holes before rolling in a birdie at the 15th, moving her to 5-under.
She then holed out her tee shot from 160 yards on the par-3 16th for her fourth career hole-in-one.
"Yesterday I hit a full 7-iron over the green and it was basically the same yardage today, so I hit a soft one and it covered the pin all the way and then I just saw it bounce once and hit the pin," Hedwall said about her shot. "But I didn't see it go in. I think the crowd up there, they didn't want to yell because Lorie (Kane) or someone was hitting off number 17, so we walked up there and they were like, it went in ... It wasn't really the feeling when you see it go in, but it's always nice."
The Swede added back-to-back gains at the 18th and first to move to 9-under, but gave those shots back with bogeys at the third and sixth.
Hedwall closed with a flurry, though, recording birdies at the seventh and ninth around a 4-foot eagle putt at the eighth to jump to the top of the leaderboard.
Pettersen posted a pair of birdies and seven pars over a steady outward 34 to make the turn at 8-under.
She tripped to a bogey at the 11th to drop to 7-under, but ended her round with gains at Nos. 12, 15 and 18 to finish a shot off the pace.
"Today was not the best day, but when I had a good chance I kind of executed," said Pettersen."Just not a great day but sticking to the theme, coming down, finishing and coming back to my good feel -- it's very, very close. I've got to trust my feels and what I have to do."
NOTES: Hedwall has been a member of the last two European Solheim Cup team, winning the cup in 2011 and 2013 ... Pettersen, who is ranked second in the world, can claim the No. 1 ranking with a victory, a solo second finish or a tie for second with one other player ... Ko is playing in just her second tournament as a professional. She does have two LPGA Tour wins as an amateur, the 2012 and 2013 CN Canadian Open.
