Buenos Aires, Argentina (SportsNetwork.com) - Two-time reigning champ David Ferrer and former winner Nicolas Almagro secured spots in the quarterfinals Thursday at the Copa Claro tennis event, which is part of the ATP World Tour's 'Golden Swing' through Latin America.

The top-seeded Ferrer converted 5-of-16 break points as he bested Colombia's Santiago Giraldo 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) on the red clay at Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club.

The Spanish wild card will next face countryman Albert Ramos, a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Italian Filippo Volandri.

Meanwhile, the fourth-seeded Almagro came from behind to beat fellow Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver 1-6, 7-5, 6-4.

Almagro, who titled here in 2011 and was the runner-up in 2012, will meet Jeremy Chardy in the round of eight, as the eighth-seeded Frenchman fought his way past Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3) on Day 4.
