Eastern Washington builds a big 1st-half lead and hangs on to defeat Sacramento State 85-72

Parker Kelly scored 18 points Thursday night and Eastern Washington held off a late charge from Sacramento State for an 85-72 win.

EWU (11-13, 6-7 Big Sky) led by as much as 21 on its way to a 45-29 halftime advantage.

Sacramento State (10-12, 6-7) closed the deficit to 64-60 with 7:54 to go. Even though the Hornets went without a field goal for the next 5 minutes, they managed to cut the deficit back to 74-69 with 2:04 to play.

The Eagles made 9 of 10 free throws in the final 2 minutes to secure the win.

Venky Jois had 12 points, nine rebounds and seven assists and Drew Brandon had 14 points, nine assists and six rebounds for the Eagles. Martin Seiferth added 16 points and 11 rebounds and Tyler Harvey scored 16.

Mikh McKinney had 15 points, six rebounds and five assists to lead the Hornets.
