The home side was two goals to the good inside the opening five minutes as Raul Garcia and Diego Costa scored in quick succession.
Atletico held the two-goal advantage until the 74th minute when Diego Godin extended the lead with just his second league goal of the season.
The win puts Atletico on 60 points for the season as the club remains neck- and-neck with Barcelona. Valladolid stays third from bottom on 21 points.
Levante 1, Almeria 0
Valencia, Spain - Levante extended its unbeaten La Liga run to six games on Saturday thanks to a 1-0 defeat of Almeria.
David Barral produced the lone goal of the contest as the 30-year-old struck in the 62nd minute to lift Levante to 32 points on the season.
Almeria, which has alternated between victory and defeat over its last five league outings, stays put on 25 points.
Celta Vigo 2, Villarreal 0
Villarreal, Spain - Celta Vigo earned a 2-0 win over Villarreal in Saturday's eventful contest at El Madrigal.
Fabian Orellana opened the scoring for Celta Vigo with just eight minutes to play. The match was halted shortly after when tear gas was thrown onto the pitch, but the visitors managed to double their lead when play resumed thanks to Nolito's late strike.
The win sees Celta Vigo improve to 29 points while Villarreal stays put on 40 points.
