New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - The New Orleans Pelicans announced Monday that center Jason Smith had successful surgery on Jan. 29 to remove a loose piece of articular cartilage in the non-weight bearing area of his right knee.

Smith, who last played on Jan. 15, will miss the remainder of the season.

In 31 games this season, Smith averaged 9.7 points and 5.8 rebounds.
