Japan takes 2-1 lead against Canada in Davis Cup

Tokyo, Japan (SportsNetwork.com) - A Japanese duo of Kei Nishikori and Yasutaka Uchiyama defeated a Canadian pairing of Frank Dancevic and Daniel Nestor, as Japan now leads Canada 2-1 in their best-of-five opening-round Davis Cup tie.

Nishikori and Uchiyama claimed a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 6-4 victory over Dancevic and Nestor, this after the two teams split Friday's opening singles rubbers on the indoor hardcourt at Ariake Coliseum.

Sunday's reverse singles currently pit Nishikori against Dancevic and Go Soeda versus Peter Polansky.

Japan is a perfect 5-0 all-time versus Canada in Davis Cup play, with their last meeting occurring way back in 1938. This is the first-ever matchup outside of Montreal.

The Japan-Canada winner will meet the Czech Republic-Netherlands victor in a quarterfinal in April.
