San Sebastian, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Real Sociedad announced the signing of Valencia midfielder Sergio Canales on Friday with the former Real Madrid man joining the club on a four-and-a-half-year contract.
No fee has been confirmed by either club, but reports indicate the number could reach up to $6 million.
"Real Sociedad have reached an agreement with Valencia and with Sergio Canales for the signing of the young midfielder until June 30, 2018. Sergio Canales has already passed his medical prior to signing and will be officially presented next Monday."
The 22-year-old Canales began his career at Racing and made his La Liga debut when he was 17 before securing a move to Real Madrid.
But Canales struggled to land a place in the first team at Madrid and was loaned to Valencia before making a permanent switch.
A pair of serious knee injuries has forced Canales to spend significant time on the sidelines, while he has appeared in 19 league matches for Valencia this season.
