St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - The St. Louis Rams fired defensive coordinator Tim Walton on Wednesday after just one season and will reportedly bring back Gregg Williams.

"I would like to thank Tim for his hard work and contributions to our defense," said Rams coach Jeff Fisher. "I wish him well in the future."

Walton was tabbed to replace Williams, who was hired as defensive coordinator but never coached a down for the Rams after being suspended for the entire 2012 season for his role in the New Orleans Saints bounty program.

The Rams opted to go with a committee approach that season rather than replacing Williams, then brought Walton on board last February.

Multiple media outlets reported that the Rams have re-hired Williams for the job.

Despite defensive end Robert Quinn's 19 sacks, Walton's defense gave up 364 points last season, 13th in the NFL. It ranked 19th against the pass and ninth against the run.
