(SportsNetwork.com) - Richard Sherman's post-NFC title game rant went viral, but it's something the Seattle Seahawks cornerback did during the game that's costing him some money.
Sherman was fined $7,875 by the NFL for unsportsmanlike conduct/taunting, a league spokesman confirmed Friday.
The Pro Bowl corner was given a 10-yard taunting penalty near the end of the game for making a choking gesture toward the San Francisco sideline, which he said was directed at 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Sherman leapt to tip Kaepernick's pass intended for Michael Crabtree in the end zone and it was intercepted by teammate Malcolm Smith, halting a 49ers drive in the final minute and sealing Seattle's second Super Bowl trip.
Replays showed Sherman patting Crabtree on the butt and attempting to shake his hand, then making the choking gesture.
Sherman has apologized for remarks he made in a boisterous postgame interview with Fox sideline reporter Erin Andrews in which he screamed that he was the best corner in the game and disparaged Crabtree's talent.
