Barcelona president Sandro Rosell resigns amid lawsuit regarding Neymar transfer

Sandro Rosell is resigning as Barcelona's president, a day after a judge agreed to hear a lawsuit accusing him of allegedly hiding the cost to acquire Brazilian forward Neymar.

Rosell said after an emergency meeting with Barcelona's board of directors on Thursday that vice president Josep Bartomeu will finish his term as president that expires in 2016.

Elected in 2010 to replace Joan Laporta, Rosell said last April he planned to run for re-election in 2016.
