Roda striker Nemeth receives five-match ban

Kerkrade, Netherlands (SportsNetwork.com) - Roda will be without striker Krisztian Nemeth for its next five matches after he received a five-game suspension for making contact with a referee.

The incident occurred in Roda's 2-0 League Cup defeat against AZ Alkmaar on Tuesday when Nemeth felt he should have been awarded a penalty kick after being knocked over inside the area.

Nemeth then received a red card when he made contact with referee Serdar Gozubuyuk.

"After I was knocked over in the penalty area, and therefore did not get the penalty that should have been given in my opinion, I've let myself go emotionally and I barged against the referee Gozubuyuk with my chest," Nemeth said in a statement on Roda's website.

"It was a mistake and I apologize. This is not like me as a player and I also realize I have let down not only myself but also the team.

"I will accept the punishment that the KNVB has imposed on me."

The 25-year-old Nemeth leads Roda with eight goals this season and his absence comes as a blow to a team on an eight-game winless streak that sits only two points above the bottom three.
