Mets, Parnell agree to one-year deal

Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Mets and pitcher Bobby Parnell avoided salary arbitration Friday by agreeing to a one-year contract for the 2014 season.

Parnell had a breakout season with the Mets last year, going 5-5 with a career-low 2.16 ERA and 22 saves over 49 appearances out of the bullpen.

Since breaking into the majors with the Mets in 2008, the 29-year-old right- hander has gone 18-24 with a 3.55 ERA and 36 saves in 298 appearances, all but eight out of the bullpen.
