Melbourne, Australia (SportsNetwork.com) - David Ferrer was a third-round winner Friday at the Australian Open.
The third-seeded Spaniard knocked off 29th-seeded Frenchman Jeremy Chardy 6-2, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 at Rod Laver Arena to reach the round of 16 at a 15th straight Grand Slam.
Chardy served eight aces, but committed the same number of double faults and racked up 51 unforced errors.
Awaiting Ferrer in the fourth round is Florian Mayer. The German dismissed 20th-seeded Pole Jerzy Janowicz 7-5, 6-2, 6-2.
